Tapered Roller Bearings

Overview

tapered roller bearings

Tapered roller bearings are engineered to carry heavy combined radial and axial loads in a single, compact unit — a capability that distinguishes them from ball bearings and most other roller bearing types.

Our tapered roller bearing range covers single row, double row (TDO/TDI), and four-row (TQO) configurations in both ISO metric and inch (Timken-interchange) series.

Whether you’re sourcing wheel hub bearings for an automotive production line, axle bearings for heavy trucks, or four-row bearings for a rolling mill housing, our catalog is built for procurement engineers who need verified dimensions, load ratings, and consistent supply.

Key Advantages

  • Combined load capacity — one bearing handles both radial and axial loads, reducing part count and housing complexity compared to ball-bearing-plus-thrust-bearing arrangements.
  • Adjustable preload (separable single-row designs) — set running clearance precisely at installation for optimal life and minimal noise.
  • High radial stiffness — the line-contact geometry of tapered rollers spreads load over a larger contact area than point-contact ball bearings, supporting heavier loads at comparable envelope size.

Product Series Covered

Series Configuration Typical Designation Best For
Single Row One cone, one cup, single row of tapered rollers 302xx, 303xx, 320xx, 322xx, 323xx Wheel hubs, gearboxes, unidirectional or paired axial loads
Double Row — TDO (Two Double Outer) Two cups outside, common cone spacer, fixed factory preload 3525xx, 3526xx and TDO-coded part numbers Vehicle axles, where preload must stay stable without field adjustment
Double Row — TDI (Two Double Inner) Two cones inside, common cup spacer TDI-coded part numbers Compact housings needing both load directions in one unit
Four Row — TQO Four rows of tapered rollers, two cone assemblies, two cup assemblies TQO / 4T-CR series Rolling mill housings, heavy mill stands, large-diameter rotating equipment

Applications & Industries

  • Automotive & commercial vehicles — wheel hub bearings, differentials, transmissions, steering knuckles
  • Industrial gearboxes — input/output shaft support where combined loads are present
  • Rolling mills & metal processing — four-row (TQO) bearings in mill stand housings
  • Construction & mining equipment — final drives, excavator swing/travel gearboxes
  • Agricultural machinery — axle bearings, gearbox shaft support
  • Wind turbines — main shaft and gearbox bearing positions requiring combined radial/thrust support
  • Material handling — conveyor pulleys, crane wheel and hook assemblies (thrust series)

FAQs

What's the difference between TDO and TDI double-row tapered roller bearings?

TDO (Two Double Outer) bearings have two cups on the outside with a shared cone spacer between two cones — preload is set and fixed at the factory, making them ideal for vehicle axles where field adjustment isn’t practical. TDI (Two Double Inner) bearings reverse this arrangement, with two cones inside and a shared cup spacer, and are typically used in compact housings.

Yes — single-row tapered roller bearings are separable, meaning the cone and cup can be mounted and the internal clearance adjusted using shims, a locknut, or a threaded adjustment depending on the housing design. This is a key advantage over fixed-clearance ball bearings in applications like machine tool spindles and vehicle axles.

Our ISO metric series (30xxx, 32xxx, 33xxx) follow ISO 355 boundary dimensions, and we provide direct cross-reference tables to Timken, SKF, NSK, FAG, and NTN equivalents so you can confirm fit before switching suppliers.
