Overview
Spherical roller bearings are heavy-duty, self-aligning rolling bearings designed to carry exceptionally high radial loads together with axial loads in both directions — even under shaft misalignment, deflection, and housing/mounting errors. Two rows of barrel-shaped rollers run on a common spherical raceway in the outer ring, allowing the bearing to automatically compensate for angular misalignment without loss of performance or premature wear. This makes spherical roller bearings the standard choice for heavy industrial equipment where shock loads, vibration, and shaft deflection are unavoidable — including mining machinery, vibrating screens, gearboxes, paper mill rolls, wind turbines, and steel rolling mills.

What is the difference between a spherical roller bearing and a tapered roller bearing?
A spherical roller bearing uses two rows of barrel-shaped rollers on a common spherical outer-ring raceway, giving it self-aligning capability and the ability to handle misalignment. A tapered roller bearing has conical rollers and raceways and offers no self-aligning function, but typically provides higher precision and stiffness for applications without misalignment concerns, such as automotive wheel hubs.
When should I choose a sealed (2RS/CC) vs. open spherical roller bearing?
Sealed variants are recommended for applications with limited access for re-lubrication or exposure to dust, moisture, or contaminants — such as enclosed gearboxes or outdoor screening equipment. Open variants with W33 lubrication grooves are preferred where the equipment uses centralized or continuous lubrication systems.
Can your spherical roller bearings replace SKF, NSK, or FAG bearings directly?
